Summary:
Dr. Almuthanna K. Alkaraki is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Yarmouk University and an active member of the Arab Academy for Responsible Conduct of Research (AA-RCR). He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology from the University of Massachusetts–Lowell and has extensive experience in bioinformatics, molecular biology, and research ethics. He has served in several academic and leadership roles, including IRB committee membership and departmental leadership, and has contributed to numerous research publications and postgraduate supervision.
In this workshop, Dr. Alkaraki provided an applied introduction to human research ethics and IRB fundamentals, discussing core ethical principles, informed consent, protocol evaluation, and common challenges faced by investigators. He enriched the session with practical examples from his IRB experience to illustrate how ethical review processes protect participants and support research integrity.

3. Law and Biomedical Ethics Workshop

Dr. Rani Shatnawi is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at Jordan University of Science and Technology, with extensive experience in clinical leadership, academic teaching, and research across the UK and Jordan. His background includes leading critical care units, supervising postgraduate research, and delivering advanced training in healthcare ethics, leadership, and clinical practice. His multidisciplinary expertise allowed him to provide a comprehensive perspective on the intersection between biomedical ethics, healthcare regulation, and professional responsibility.
In this workshop, Dr. Shatnawi offered an in-depth discussion on the relationship between law and biomedical ethics, including regulatory frameworks, patient rights, ethical responsibility in practice, and legal considerations in both clinical and research settings. He also highlighted real-world cases from his clinical and academic experience to illustrate how ethical and legal principles guide decision-making in healthcare environments.
