✅ The Evolution of Research Ethics & CRO Responsibility
📅 June 15, 2025 – PharmaPrimes Laboratories, Amman, Jordan
We are thrilled to share the successful completion of our interactive workshop titled “The Evolution of Research Ethics & CRO Responsibility”, led by Hisham E. Hasan, BPharm, MSc, Biomedical Ethics Specialist from Jordan University of Science and Technology.
This workshop brought together professionals, researchers, and clinical specialists for an engaging two-hour journey through the complex, often troubling, and ultimately transformative history of research ethics.
🧬 Workshop Highlights
From the unethical horrors of the Tuskegee study and Nazi trials to the modern health research issues, the session traced how each ethical failure gave rise to critical global reforms in biomedical research.
Through compelling case studies, interactive polls, and real-time discussions, participants explored:
- The historical origins of modern research safeguards
- The development of ethical guidelines such as the Belmont Report and Declaration of Helsinki
- The growing ethical and regulatory responsibilities of Contract Research Organizations (CROs)
- Data integrity challenges and how CROs act as stewards of research quality
- Best practices to balance business demands, scientific integrity, and human dignity
💡 Key Takeaways
- Ethical failures shape the future: Every major regulation—from the FDA to ICH-GCP—was born from preventable tragedies.
- CROs are more than service providers: They are ethical partners, trusted with scientific accuracy, regulatory compliance, and participant protection.
- Data integrity is non-negotiable: ALCOA+ principles (Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, Accurate) must be embedded into every process.
- Transparency builds trust: Whether with sponsors, regulators, or the public, open and ethical communication is essential.
- Leadership matters: Ethical culture begins at the top, through policies, training, and daily decisions.
- The future is digital: CROs must adapt to AI, decentralized trials, and emerging challenges without compromising ethical standards.
