We are thrilled to share that Hisham E. Hasan, a master’s candidate in our RCR program focusing on biomedical ethics, recently participated in the 2024 Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) Virtual Winter School at the University of Cambridge. This year’s theme, “AI and its Ethical Challenges: Religious and Cultural Perspectives,” provided an engaging platform for exploring the intricate relationship between artificial intelligence and ethics through various lenses.
The virtual winter school, held from September 24th to 27th, 2024, featured a lineup of distinguished speakers and thought-provoking sessions. Participants engaged in discussions that spanned topics from AI regulation and social justice to the dynamics of AI power in the Arab world. Notably, the event was a collaborative effort with The Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI) at the University of Cambridge, UK.
Hisham presented his research titled “Ethical Considerations and Concerns in the Implementation of AI in Pharmacy Practice: A Cross-sectional Study.” This study highlights the ethical dimensions of integrating AI in pharmacy practice, particularly in the MENA region. His work emphasizes the need for robust data protection measures and comprehensive regulations to navigate the ethical complexities introduced by AI in healthcare.
Hisham’s participation in this prestigious event not only reflects his commitment to exploring the ethical challenges posed by emerging technologies but also highlights the crucial intersection of AI, ethics, and religious perspectives.
Stay tuned for more updates on other exciting developments in the field of biomedical ethics!
