Navigating the Publication Process – Balancing Speed and Ethical Integrity

February 20, 2024, Dr Sawsan Abuhammad led a timely and insightful webinar titled “Publication Process: Balancing Speed and Ethical Integrity.” The event was jointly organized by the Oman College of Health Sciences, Arab Academy for Responsible Conduct of Research, and the Research Ethics Program in Jordan a collaboration between Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), USA.

Dr. Abuhammad addressed the growing tension between the demand for rapid publication in scientific research and the need to uphold ethical integrity throughout the publication process. In today’s fast-paced academic world, researchers are under pressure to publish their findings quickly, but this often brings challenges in maintaining thorough peer review and adhering to rigorous ethical standards.

Dr. Abuhammad emphasized the need for a collaborative effort between researchers, journal editors, and academic institutions to create systems that both support timely dissemination of knowledge and uphold the highest ethical standards. She highlighted the importance of transparent communication during the peer review process and responsible authorship practices.

This webinar is part of ongoing efforts to enhance ethical research practices in the Arab world and globally, ensuring that the quality and integrity of research are maintained despite the increasing pressures to publish rapidly.
